Such amazing light in this city. Some days I'm happy to shoot simply because I like the sound or feel of the shutter under my finger, sometimes its the job or the subjects but other days it's just the light. The light is what its all about, right. And when it works it works. The way the light gets thrown around and reflected in New York blows me away. Long shadows, soft light, backlit... whatever... It was on the other day in Soho...

yeah i know this last one's soft. I don't care. I like it more because of it. 50mm... Booom!

shooting so many frames digitally every week it's a nice change to slow down and shoot some 'real' film. i'm very new to this.. still getting used to how the leica and reads different light. i'm about half way through a roll of ilford black and white at the moment. i started it about a month and a half ago. i can't remember what's on it. i think i like that.
this was taken with my Leica Minilux, on Agfa 100.

Since moving to NYC 5 months ago I haven't surfed. I used to live on Whale Beach so that's a hard place to beat when it comes to waves (no offence, Rockaway)...

Now I ride a fixy.
I love riding.
I cruise the streets.
I ride to cafes.
I ride around the block.
I ride through Manhattan.
I dodge taxi's.

In the words of Mr Hemingway...

"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. This was the first time I'd shot on the street for fashion week and I absolutely loved it. The variety was incredible -- details, menswear, women's fashion, details, shoes, famous bloggers(!), portraits, cars, crowds... details... it was awesome.

For the next few days I'll be posting my take on fashion week. A little snippet of what I saw. Most of which occurred outside the Ralph Lauren show in Soho.

MICK+LELA'S BYRON BAY WEDDING

Super cool small intimate wedding up in the hills behind Byron. Love that huge tree, but it didn't come without its challenges... After crawling under an electrified barb wire fence, we were threatened by a crazy shot gun wielding farmer who came running down the road shouting profanities in our direction. Slightly shocked and not knowing what to say we shouted back "but we've got permission!!??" (which luckily was true, as I chatted to the lovely old lady who owned the property earlier in the afternoon).
He retreated.
We didn't get shot.
Good to know that neighbourly love still exists in the hills behind Byron.

Oh and is this the first siting of a bride playing frisbee?

Originally from Melbourne, Mick & Lela have now moved to Brooklyn which means we can hang out more =) Hooray for that.

I'm still in New York... (because I live here now)... but I am still allowed to reminisce... Byron was/is awesome. The Hamptons has got nuthin' on Australian beaches. The last wedding I shot in Australia was in Byron... I will post some shots from it soon. It was completely beautiful & intimate & easy & I loved every minute of it.
